Nick and I took our last cleansing drink last night - our 15 day detox is officially over!
I'm excited and proud of us and our diligence...overall it was a really good experience and hopefully something we can do again.
However, I'm feeling lost. I had lunch with a friend today and was looking at all the food options and felt weird about eating cheese and dressing again. I feel like everything I looked at was dripping with toxins (preservatives, all sorts of unpronounceable ingredients) or would just make me feel yucky and sluggish (everything buttered and oily and cheesy). So, I suppose this is the unmentioned Phase 4: Transitioning. It's hard because I don't altogether want to transition back to the way / things I was eating. But, I also don't want to stay on the strict detox much longer. What do I keep? What do I decide isn't worth having anymore? What actually gave me so much energy and made me feel so good on the detox?
A few quick thoughts on moving forward:
Products: I am going to be a bit more conscious of what I buy and what exactly is in it. The detox brought to light that it isn't just food that contributes toxins. Trying to stick with natural ingredients, not a ton of preservatives and vegetable oil based.
Sugar: It's way too easy to go overboard on refined sugar which has absolutely no nutrients or benefits. Thinking of switching to Stevia and putting away this recent candy addiction.
Rice Milk: I really like the taste, it does well in multiple things (oatmeal, cereal, shakes etc).
Fruits and Veggies: The more the merrier! I want to continue plates overflowing with color and nutrients from veggies instead of our normal beige carb fest. And Nick and I are trying to switch to buying organic whenever possible.
Well, back to the dilemma of "What should we have for dinner?!" I feel a bit lost without my rice and beans staple dinner.
